The Crime Desk: Independent candidate MA Motaleb has won the Chittagong-15 (Satkania, Lohagara) seat in the Chittagong-15 (Satkania, Lohagara) constituency by defeating Awami League-nominated boat candidate Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi by a huge margin.
This reporter talked to local leaders and activists to find out the reason for Nadbi’s loss. They complained that Nadvi lost due to nepotism, various irregularities, and corruption. He could never accept the leaders and activists of the Awami League. As a result, they claimed that the leaders and activists also rejected him after getting the opportunity.
Independent candidate MA Motaleb’s chief election coordinator and local Awami League leader, Dr. AMM Minhaj Uddin, said Nadvi was elected a member of Parliament twice from this seat. But he could never accept the local Awami League leaders and activists.’
He said, ‘In the last ten years, Nadvi, his family, and relatives have committed various crimes. Among these, the control of the Satkania-Lohagara illegal sand trade, the subscription of various merchant associations, and the illegal possession trade are significant. Besides, his followers extorted money in every sector, including CNG and bus stations.
This local Awami League leader complained and said, “Although complaints were taken to Nadvi about these issues, the victims never got justice. As a result, people who are suffering day after day have rejected Nadvi.
President of Lohagara Upazila Awami League Khorshed Alam Chowdhury said, “Although Nadvi has been a member of Parliament in this constituency since 2014, he has no relationship with local leaders and activists. He used to conduct activities with opportunistic activists.
“When Nadvi was a Member of Parliament, there was massive corruption in government TR, Kabikha, solar power, and deep tubewell projects. His relatives have been the beneficiaries of all development projects in this seat. Therefore, even though Nadvi was the candidate of the boat, the local Awami League did not work for Nadvi. They were in favor of independent candidate MA Motaleb, the leader of the party. As a result, Nadvi’s loss was inevitable,’ said Khorsed Alam Chowdhury.
Satkania Upazila Awami League General Secretary Qutubuddin Chowdhury said, “Nadvi is a proud and arrogant person.” His followers committed various misdeeds in Satkaniya day after day. Corruption and looting. But Nadvi did not take any action in this regard. As a result, the Awami League and the suffering common people rejected Nadvi in the election.
Regarding the opposition of the local Awami League leaders and activists, Nadvi’s wife and his chief election coordinator, Rizia Reza Chowdhury, wrote in a social media post: ‘Last 10 years, Nadvi has worked tirelessly to make the boat a symbol of the common people. But because of illegal weapons, black money, and terrorism in the polls, the boat’s victory has largely been stripped away.’
According to local sources, Nadvi’s wife left for Qatar immediately after losing the election. However, no information is available regarding why he went to Qatar.
Independent candidate MA Motaleb won in the Satkania Lohagara constituency in the 12th National Parliament election by getting 85,628 votes. Boat candidate Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi got 39,252 votes.
