Newly elected MPs pay homage to Bangabandhu portrait

Dhaka Bureau: After the absolute victory in the election to be held on January 7, under the leadership of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, the newly elected members of parliament paid tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Today, Wednesday (January 10) morning, they paid tribute to Bangabandhu’s portrait in front of Bangabandhu Bhavan at 32 Dhanmondi.

Continuous polling was held last Sunday from 8 am to 4 pm. Out of 300 parliamentary constituencies, polling was held in 299 constituencies. Polling in Naogaon-2 constituency was suspended due to the death of one candidate.

Awami League is going to form the government for the fourth time in a row with a two-thirds majority in the 12th National Parliament elections. Out of 299 constituencies, the private results of 298 constituencies were available till noon on Monday (January 09). Among them, Awami League won 223 seats under the boat symbol. After Awami League, independent candidates got the most seats. Independent candidates have been declared winners in 62 constituencies.

It should be noted that the Jatiya Party, sitting in the seat of the main opposition party in the Jatiya Sangsad in the last two terms, finally won 11 seats. Among the partners of 14 parties led by Awami League, Jasad won one seat, Workers’ Party one and Kalyan Party, which came out of BNP’s alliance, won one seat.
