Sitakunda Correspondent: The Dhaka-bound Chattla Express derailed behind the Shapla Petrol Pump of Ward No. 6 in Sitakunda Municipality. This incident happened on Wednesday (January 3) at approximately 8:30 a.m.
However, no casualties were reported. At this time, two Chittagong-bound trains were stopped at Sitakunda station for 30 minutes.
Initially, it is believed that the incident happened due to the loosening of the bolt of the joint of the railway line. It derailed a compartment behind the engine.
Sitakunda Railway Station Master. Akbar Hossain said that 50/60 sleepers were uprooted due to the collision of train wheels. However, they said that the nuts and bolts of some sleepers were open.
Senior officials of Sitakunda and Chittagong Railway visited the spot after receiving the news. The cause of the train derailment is being investigated. Railway cranes reached the spot to rescue the derailed train.
