Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: The court has ordered the death penalty for four people, including a Rohingya, for smuggling 13 lakh Yaba. At the same time each of the accused has been fined 50 thousand rupees. The accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
Judge Mohammad Ismail of Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court announced this verdict on Wednesday (November 16) around 12:30 PM. This was confirmed by the public prosecutor (PP) of the court, Advocate Faridul Alam.
The convicts are – Balukhali Rohingya Camp-13, Block-AS-16 of Cox’s Bazar. Ayaz (34), Abul Kalam (37) of Power House South Hajipara of Ward No. 2 of Jhelongja Union of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila, Azimullah (43) of Pancharam Para of Manikchari Upazila of Khagrachari and Abul Kalam (37) of the same area.
Advocate Faridul Alam said that on August 23, 2020, a team of RAB-15 seized a fishing boat on the north side of Khuruskul Bridge at Majhir Ghat in Cox’s Bazar. Meanwhile, Ayaz and Billal who were in the boat were arrested. Later, RAB seized 13 lakh Yaba tablets and 10 thousand cash after searching the fishing boat. Naib Subedar of RAB-15 in this incident. Harunor Rashid filed a case at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station under Section 10(c)/38/41 of Schedule 36(1) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, accusing 4-5 people, including two others.
He also said that Ayaz and Billal admitted their guilt and gave a statement in the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. They revealed the identity of absconding accused Azimullah and Abul Kalam in their deposition. The investigation officer of the case and SI of RAB-15 Mohammad Sohail Sikder gave the charge sheet of the case to the court on June 10, 2021. We are pleased that the case was decided quickly at the end of the evidence.
