Banskhali Representative: The Election Commission (EC) has filed a case against Awami League-nominated boat candidate and current MP Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury in Chittagong-16 (Banskhali) constituency.
Banskhali upazila election officer Harun Molla filed the case in Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb’s court on Tuesday.
Earlier last Sunday (December 24), the Election Commission ordered the upazila election officer to file a case against MP Mostafiz.
Deputy Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat. In the letter signed by Abduch Salam, Chittagong District and Banshkhali Upazila Election Officers were asked to file a case.
According to court sources, a case was filed against MP Mostafiz under Section 8(b) of the Election Code of Conduct Act for violation of the election code of conduct and the crime of beating and harassing journalists.
The court took the statement under Section 200 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and issued summons against the accused, taking cognizance of the offense. At the same time, the court ordered him to appear in court on January 3.
District Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Sheikh Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury handled the case. He said the court has recorded the case.
Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury has been nominated by the Awami League for the third time from the Chittagong-16 (Banshkhali) constituency. Earlier, he was elected from this seat in 2014 and 2018.
