On the occasion of Victory Day, on Saturday, December 16, at 6:35 a.m., President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War by laying flowers at the National Memorial in Savar. After that, the main gate of the National Memorial was opened to the public. Immediately, ordinary people, including political, voluntary, and public-private organizations, started entering the National Memorial to pay their respects in droves. People flock to the memorial.
Bangladesh architect Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called for independence in 1971. At his call, millions of Bengalis flocked to the invading Pakistani forces. The war of liberation began. The war in which 3 million children of Bengali mothers were martyred. Today’s freedom is in exchange for their blood. The entire nation remembers the children of that Bengali mother with respect. Ignoring the busy schedule and the cold, many people bring their children and introduce them to the spirit of victory and liberation.
Garment worker Mojibur Rahman came to the National Memorial from Jamgara in Ashulia with his two-year-old child. He said, Today is the day of great victory. On this day, the Bengali nation got a taste of freedom. I have come to pay my respects with my son to show the spirit of the liberation war and the war we fought to liberate the country. That is why my child can learn about the country and the war of liberation from childhood.
Freedom fighter Safer Ali said, We have brought freedom to the people of the country by fighting. Today, we are free. The people of the country are moving freely and living freely. It fills the chest with pride. There is nothing more to ask for in life. Millions flocked to the National Memorial today to pay their respects to those who gave their lives to secure freedom. Looking at this image, what else can be desired in life? Those who gave their lives may not be able to see this image today. But for them, I see how much respect the people of Bengal have for them.
Ahsan Hossain came to the National Memorial from Savar to pay his respects. He said, Today we have won. We got freedom in exchange for honoring 30 lakh martyrs and 2 lakh mothers and sisters in the liberation war. We have a duty to those whose fresh blood we have today. We owe it to their families. It is not enough to pay respect. These are the responsibilities of all of us who enjoy freedom.
Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Engineer in Charge of the National Memorial, said that the gate of the National Memorial was opened for everyone after the President and the Prime Minister paid their respects in the morning. After that, the crowd entered the courtyard. Tight security arrangements have been made on the occasion of the day.
