Dhaka Bureau: In this election, the partners of 14 parties will not be given more than 7 seats. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that they should win by competing.
He said this at a press conference in Dhanmondi on Friday (December 15) afternoon.
Expressing anger at TIB’s comments, Obaidul Quader said, “TIB is one of those who practice free thinking in our country, who claim to be advocates of human rights. They said the 12th National Assembly elections would not be participatory. This time, 28 registered parties are participating in this election. Even then, why won’t there be a participatory election?’
Questioning the TIB, he further said, “The TIB said, considering the situation before and after the announcement of the schedule, what is meant by participatory elections will not happen this time either.” What does participatory election mean?’
The Awami League General Secretary said, “28 registered parties are coming to the election.” A few parties, including the BNP, are far away. Now, if the BNP does not participate in the election, what does it mean? Is TIB a branch organization of BNP that is speaking in the same tone?’
TIB is talking about ‘weird, weird’
Obaidul Quader said, ‘They are doing this knowingly. Being advocates of BNP ideology, some people are saying such things blindly. TIB is talking about weird, weird stuff.’
He said that this year’s election should be kept as a record of neutrality. Elections are the lifeblood of democracy. It is our duty to de-democratize the electoral system. We are a government party. We have to follow the code of conduct in the election of the party participating in the election.
