Dhaka Bureau: Martyr Intellectuals Day is not included in any category of nationally observed days. In the latest notification issued by the Cabinet Department on December 4 last year, a total of 89 national and international days have been mentioned, but there is no Martyr Intellectual Day on December 14.
In this regard, the concerned official of the Cabinet Department said that the Cabinet Department considers the importance of the days proposed by various ministries and departments and includes them in three categories. However, since 1972, Martyr Intellectuals Day has traditionally been celebrated nationally on December 14. Also, the Martyr Intellectual Memorial was built during the government’s tenure. But the family members of the martyred intellectual expressed surprise that this important day was not in the official gazette. They expressed the hope that soon the intellectual day would be included in the gazette and published.
Incidentally, it is supposed to be offered by the Ministry of Liberation War, the Ministry of Culture, or Education. When asked to know, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque told Ittefaq on the telephone last night that the day is being celebrated whether you are on the list or not.
The government has taken the following decisions regarding the celebration and observance of various national and international days on December 4 last year: Among these, the following days or festivals at the national level will be celebrated or observed with due status in List A: This list contains 22 days. Notable days are: Martyrs’ Day/International Mother Language Day, Historic March 7, Father of the Nation’s Birthday and National Children’s Day, Genocide Day, Independence and National Day, National Mourning Day, National Constitution Day, Victory Day, Bengali New Year, etc.
All the days in List B that are traditionally observed or are currently particularly helpful for environmental protection, development, and social stimulation of the country can be observed on a significant scale. 33 days are mentioned in this list. The notable days on this list are: National Social Service Day, Mujibnagar Day, World Environment Day, World Food Day, Digital Bangladesh Day, etc.
In List C, the symbolic days of special sectors will be observed on a limited scale. Such days are as follows: Annual Training Day, World Tuberculosis Day, World Merit Day, World Heart Day, World Mental Health Day, etc.
Apart from the three types of days mentioned above, various ministries, departments, and related departments observe some other days. Which is traditional. In some cases, the days are repetitive or of little importance at present. In order to save government time and resources, government agencies may avoid involvement in such observances.
