The Crime Desk: Today is World Human Rights Day. This year’s theme of the day is ‘Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All’. Various human rights organizations in the country will observe the day through various programs, including human bonds and discussion meetings. On this day in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. Later, December 10, 1950, was declared World Human Rights Day by the United Nations.
The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, fought for the protection of human rights throughout his life. He skillfully inserted human rights issues into the constitution of Bangladesh. An independent and impartial organization, the National Human Rights Commission, was established in 2009 with the aim of protecting and developing these constitutional rights. In his speech, the President urged everyone to raise their voices in defense of the rights of all the oppressed people in the world, including Palestine. He said that besides ensuring the basic rights and needs of people, it is a human right to uphold the security provisions, freedom, and dignity of all.
In his speech, the Prime Minister said, “After the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975, there was no such thing as human rights in this country.” The right to seek justice for the murder of our relatives was taken away by enacting the Impunity Ordinance so that no one could prosecute the murderers. After the formation of the government in 1996, I took the initiative to abolish the black law and establish the rule of law in the country. Since then, we have arranged for the trial of all human rights violations.
The Prime Minister said that, like other countries in the world, she is happy to know that ‘World Human Rights Day’ is being celebrated by the National Human Rights Commission in Bangladesh. On this occasion, he expressed solidarity with the righteous struggle of the exploited and oppressed people of the world on behalf of the people of Bangladesh.
