Own Correspondent: Onion prices have increased abnormally in Lohagara, South Chittagong, after the news of India’s ban on onion exports. The price of onions has doubled overnight.

On November 9 in Lohagara, the price of onions was different in different shops. 210 in some shops and 230–240 in some shops. Onion was sold at the price of 130 taka per kg on Friday, December 8, in different shops in Lohagara.

On Thursday, onions were sold at Tk 105–108 per kg. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nazmun Lael fined a shopkeeper at Battali Motor Station in Lohagara Upazila Sadar on Saturday morning for charging an extra price for onions. He also warned other shopkeepers. But no one took precautions after he left.

In this regard, the shopkeepers in the area said that they have to buy wholesale at a higher price. So sell at a higher price. In this regard, extreme anger is observed among the buyers. The buyers have sought the intervention of the higher authorities concerned regarding the excessive price of onions.
