The Crime Desk: The country’s highest border road is being built in the heart of the remote mountains. Along this route of 1 thousand 36 kilometers, there is immense potential for trade and commerce. In the 26 years of the peace agreement, the doors of various development possibilities are opening up in the mountainous areas. And the Bangladesh Army is making the impossible possible in the construction of this border road. This challenging mega project of the government is transforming the three hill districts of Bandarban, Khagrachari and Rangamati.
The border road project is about 2800 feet above sea level. The total length of this road is 1 thousand 36 kilometers. The project work is divided into three pages. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by 2036. So far 205 km road construction has been completed in the first phase.
When the entire work is completed, it will be the highest elevated road network in the history of the country. Meanwhile, the construction of the border road near Betling of Khagrachari, Majhirpara of Rangamati and Sai Chali Hills has been completed. Once upon a time, if any of the different classes of people living in the mountains fell ill, they had to walk 15-20 kilometers to take the patient to the Sadar Hospital. The scenery of the mountain has changed now. Project concerned are working keeping in mind the employment of hill community and schools, colleges and hospitals along the road. This was stated by Border Road Project Officer Major HM Ikramul Haque.
Besides, 1 thousand 212 kilometers of paved roads have been built in three mountainous areas after the peace treaty. 700 kilometers of unpaved roads, 614 kilometers of road renovation, 9 thousand 839 meters of bridge construction and 141 culverts have been constructed.
