Banshkhali representative: 4 more heavyweight candidates are spreading heat in Chittagong-16 Banshkhali constituency in the upcoming 12th National Parliament election. 13 candidates have submitted their nomination papers on the last day of nomination filing in the fight to contest. Chittagong District Commissioner’s Office Returning Officer Abul Basar Md. 10 people near Fakhruzzaman and 3 people in the office of Assistant Returning Officer Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jasmine Akhtar.
Candidates who have submitted their nomination forms are, current Member of Parliament Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury (Awami League), South District Awami League Vice President Mujibur Rahman CIP (Independent), Abdullah Kabir Liton (Independent), Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury (National Party), Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury. (Jasad), Ashish Kumar Shil (NAP), Md. Khalekuzzaman (Independent), Muhammad Emranul Haque (Independent), Muhammad Mamun Abshar (SPP), Abdul Malek (Islamic Front Bangladesh), Md. Mohiul Alam Chowdhury (Bangladesh Islamic Front), Md. Shafqat Hossain Chatgami (Islamic Alliance), M Zillur Karim Sharifi (Bangladesh Congress).
For a long time, political activities were going on in 3 circles namely MP Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury Group, CIP Mujibur Rahman Group and Abdullah Kabir Liton Group due to party conflict and political neglect in Banskhali Awami League. The different strengths of these 3 groups were displayed on the field by people’s faces. Banskhali Upazila Awami League president and two-time MP Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury has been nominated for the upcoming election. South District Awami League Vice President Mujibur Rahman CIP and South District Awami League member Abdullah Kabir Liton have taken the nomination form as independent candidates after failing party nomination. Former MP and former Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury and Acting President of Jasdar Chittagong South District (Chairman of Standard Bank Executive Committee) Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury are in the electoral field.
The fight in this seat will be tough. No one is less than anyone. Especially the competition between the four heavyweight contenders will be evenly matched.
