Dhaka Bureau: The European Union (EU) will hold a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday (December 3) regarding the monitoring of the 12th National Assembly elections.
Before this, in the meeting held on November 29, a delegation of 10 members of the organization held a meeting with the Chief Election Commission and other commissioners. At that time, they said the EU technical expert team would come on Sunday and discuss the technical issues of the election.
After the November 29 meeting, EU Ambassador Charles Whiteley said they wanted democratic, acceptable, peaceful, and participatory elections. And Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that an expert election observation team from the EU will come. Four people have already arrived in the country. As we have made it clear before, we are doing our utmost to ensure that the elections are free, fair, peaceful, and credible.
EC officials said the meeting with the technical expert team will be held at 11 a.m. It is expected to be attended by the organization’s election expert, David Noel Ward, election analyst Alexander Matus, Suibes Charlotte, and legal expert Rebecca Cox. The EC expects them to look into the technical aspects of the election.
In addition to the EU, 87 observers from various countries and organizations have applied to observe the 12th National Assembly elections. Besides, the EC has invited a total of 114 people from 34 countries and four organizations. The deadline for foreign observers to apply is December 7.
On the other hand, according to the schedule, the 12th national election will be held on January 7. Needless to say, foreigners are more interested in this election than at any other time.
