Salahuddin CIP in Chakaria-Pekua seat or Salahuddin Mahmud!

Mizbaul Haque, Chakaria: The 12th National Assembly election will be held on January 7. Politics revolves around the election in various ways. Election preparations are going on vigorously between the country’s ruling party Awami League and smaller political parties. Nomination forms have already been sold and submitted by these parties. A kind of festive atmosphere is seen among the leaders and activists of the participating political parties.

Like-minded parties including BNP are seeing this election as a challenge. Some of their allied parties including BNP have announced to resist the election. They are carrying out various programs including strikes and blockades to thwart the elections. However, Awami League and other parties have started election preparations.

Meanwhile, who is the boatman in Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) constituency? Various discussions have been going on among the voters for the last week. Many are posting on Facebook in favor of their preferred candidate. People are worried about it. There is an extreme kind of excitement going on among the supporters. All day long on the streets, in tea shops, in passenger cars, if you meet someone, you are looking for who is the boatman.

By tomorrow, Sunday, November 26, we will know who the boatman is. In the meantime, the names being heard loudly are the former general secretary of Cox’s Bazar district Awami League and the party’s three-time nomination Salahuddin Ahmad CIP and Jatiya Party (JP) presidium member, former MP and Zilla Parishad chairman Salahuddin Mahmud. Multiple party sources confirmed that any of them could get the nomination. However, in the list of three hundred names of Awami League, the name of Salah Uddin Ahmed CIP is ahead. The source said that the name of former MP Salah Uddin Mahmud is likely to come in the coalition. On the other hand, the current MP Zafar Alam’s name has been dropped from the nomination list due to various controversial activities.

Zafar Alam MP has divided the party in the last five years. Tyagi left the house by attacking the activists and false cases. Also, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, those who have not sacrificed for the party and did not oppose the party and the party leaders and workers – people who are acceptable to the common people will be nominated. Controversial persons shall not receive any nomination. In the 2014 and 2018 elections, those who were hoping for Awami League nomination, but did not get the boat, will be evaluated. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to adapt to the times in keeping with the emerging world and hand over the country’s burden to the new leadership.

According to sources, 3362 candidates have purchased nomination form of Awami League. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a meeting with the nomination aspirants at Ganabhaban today at 10 am. Lunch is also arranged for them. Party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will announce the list of 300 members of Awami League at around 5 pm.
