Dhaka Bureau: The court has ordered the confiscation of the assets of the former chairman of Basic Bank, Sheikh Abdul Hai Bachchu, and his family members.
On Wednesday, November 15, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Achaduzzaman gave this order after the hearing.
Other members of Bachchu’s family are his wife Shireen Akhtar, his son Sheikh Chabid Hai Anik, his daughter Sheikh Rafa Hai, and Bachchu’s brother Sheikh Shahriar Panna.
The assets which have been ordered by Croce are 228 century-old land in Bashundhara of the capital in the name of Bachchur, the current value of which is Tk 12 crore 43 lakh. A DOHS flat, the market value of which is Tk 64 lakhs Besides, in the name of his family, there are 30 kathas of land in the Cantonment Bazar area, the market value of which is Tk 15 crore and 25 lakhs. These lands have also been directed to Crock.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is probing allegations of money laundering and the acquisition of wealth beyond known assets against Abdul Hai Bachchu. The investigation found these assets against Bachchu and his family members. ACC Deputy Director Nurul Huda applied to the court to freeze their assets.
