Dhaka Bureau: From Tuesday (November 14), 25 to 30 trucks will sell goods at fair prices in the capital Dhaka. They are lentils, soybean oil, potatoes, and onions. These products can be bought at half the current market price.
Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh gave this information during an exchange of views with journalists on the overall situation of the country in the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat on Monday (November 13).
He said that the price of daily commodities in the market has increased abnormally. Therefore, to give relief to the customers, four products will be sold in trucksale at different points of the capital Dhaka outside TCB’s family card. They are lentils, soybean oil, potatoes, and onions. These products will be available at almost half the current market price.
The Commerce Secretary also said that 1.3 lakh families in Dhaka are being given products at a fair price through the TCB card. Apart from this, 25 to 30 trucks will sell products at fair prices in Dhaka starting Tuesday (November 14). Nine thousand more families will be added to it. 300 people will get these products in each truck. On sale every day except Friday and Saturday. But different days will be sold at different places. Stating that this program will continue every day, the secretary said that these products will be sold at different spots in Dhaka every day.
Tapan Kanti Ghosh said, ‘Anyone can buy 2 kg of lentils, potatoes, and onions and 2 liters of soybean oil in this cell. In this case, potatoes will be priced at Tk 30 per kg, onions at Tk 50, lentils at Tk 60, and soybean oil at Tk 100 per liter. However, sugar cannot be given at the moment. If sugar is available, it will be given.
The commerce secretary claimed that the prices of goods have increased due to the global situation and the increase in the dollar exchange rate. But the government has taken measures to keep the market stable; he said that 10 thousand 95 tons of potatoes have been imported. The Ministry of Agriculture has given an IP of 2 lakh metric tons of potatoes.
About egg imports, Tapan Kanti Ghosh said that 25 crore eggs have been approved. On the contrary, 62 thousand pieces of eggs have been imported. Our aim is not to import eggs but to reduce the price of eggs. If the price is low, there is no problem, even if the import is low. But until the market stabilizes, potatoes and eggs will be imported.
The Secretary of Commerce said we have gotten a significant result due to the import of eggs and potatoes. Instructions have been sent from the Prime Minister’s office that potatoes will be sold at Tk 27 per kg from cold storage. Potatoes will be released from cold storage in the presence of a district administration representative.
TCB card holders will not be given potatoes now, said the commerce secretary, because the district commissioners will ensure the sale of potatoes from Monday (November 13) at the official price, i.e., Tk 36 per kg. The government has given instructions to the concerned people so that there is no dollar problem in importing these products, such as oil, sugar, pulses, and potatoes.
