Dhaka Bureau: Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek, MP, said that the Prime Minister’s daughter Saima Wazed won the post of South-East Asia Regional Director of the World Health Organization by a large margin on November 1 in Delhi, India. Because about 200 million people in Southeast Asia trusted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before voting for Saima Wazed, the representative of 8 countries, representing 11 countries. That is why the success of Saima Wazed is the success of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Health Minister Zahid Malek, MP, said these things in a press conference held at the Ministry’s meeting room at the Secretariat this afternoon on the occasion of Saima Wazed’s victory as the regional director of the World Health Organization for Southeast Asia, recognition as the first country in the world to eradicate kala-azar, and recognition as a filoria-free country.
In the press conference, the health minister said that Bangladesh was recognized as the first country in the world to eradicate phyllores. It is a deadly disease. Between 50,000 and 90,000 people worldwide are infected every year. Many people die. Out of 100 countries affected by the disease, 13 countries have an incidence rate of 90%. About 4 million people in Bangladesh were at risk of infection. As a result of the effective action of the Ministry of Health, Bangladesh is now recognized as a black fever-free country. This is our national achievement. However, sustaining this achievement will be our future challenge.
In the briefing about the spread of filaria, or infant disease, the health minister said that 19 of the 64 districts of Bangladesh had the highest filaria infection rate of 20 percent. Bangladesh has been recognized for eradicating this disease with the appropriate initiative of the Ministry of Health.
Apart from this, the Health Minister highlighted various achievements of the health sector and answered various questions of the media personnel present.
