Own Correspondent, Lohagara: On Sunday, November 5, the train departing from Chittagong on its way to Cox’s Bazar on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar railway line stopped at Lohagara railway station for at least 10 minutes. The slow train towards Cox’s Bazar reached Lohagara station at 1.17 p.m. Just before reaching the station, the local people came running after hearing the sound of the train’s whistle.
Eager women also come out of the house to watch the train from a distance. On reaching the train station, some people, including Lohagara Upazila Volunteer League convener Riduwanul Haque Sujan, welcomed them with Jai Bangla slogans. Enthusiasm was observed in the crowd. Here, the train stops at least 300 meters beyond the station.
According to the concerned sources, the distance from railway station Dohazari to Lohagara station is 23 km. After Dohazari, the train stopped for only a few minutes while crossing the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway north of Satkania Keranihat. The station of Lohagara is in Seberbil of Noor Muhammad Para, west of Adhunagar Khanhat area of the upazila.
After leaving the station, the train halted again near the Elephant Overpass, located in the Chunti Sanctuary area of Lohagara. After 15 minutes of break here, the train leaves for Cox’s Bazar. Apart from this overpass, there are two more underpasses and some large culverts in the sanctuary area. Wildlife will run over the overpass, and trains will run under it. The overpass system is said to be the first in Asia.
